Rules and Ethics

LF Scouts Hockey Rules and Ethics (R&E) Process

The LF Scouts Hockey Club takes rules and ethics complaints seriously and manages them thoughtfully and thoroughly through our Rules & Ethics (R&E) Committee (committee representatives will be selected on an annual basis), according to USA Hockey and AHAI guidelines. If you have a rules or ethics issue you would like to be reviewed by this committee, please follow the process outlined below.

  • Please be sure to submit your concern within 48 hours of the event in question so that it can be properly investigated in a timely manner.
  • Please know the LF Scouts Hockey Board and R&E Committee do not handle any roster, team placement or playing time concerns/questions.
  • LF Scouts Hockey Club handles all R&E issues. LF Scouts Hockey Club is not associated with Lake Forest High School and Lake Forest High School does not have a place in this process.

Process:

  1. Send an email to the Rules & Ethics Committee at scoutshockeyRE@gmail.com outlining your issue, including specifics about the situation (Ie dates, events, witnesses, names etc). The LF Scouts Hockey Board of Directors will not hear verbal concerns at meetings as all issues must be detailed in writing and submitted via this email address in order to be addressed.
  2. Any email sent to the Rules & Ethics Committee will then be reviewed by the R&E Chair and its committee members. **Note:  Any R&E issue or complaint that is verbally reported to any LF Scouts Hockey Board member or R&E Committee member must also be reported in writing to the designated email address so the issue may be addressed and responded to appropriately. The R&E committee will not investigate any report that does not come in via this process in writing.**
  3. Once the formal written complaint is received by the Rules & Ethics Committee, an initial review/investigation will be conducted. If appropriate, the Rules & Ethics Committee will move the case forward through fact-finding as necessary (e.g., talking to involved parties, including but not limited to players, coaches, parents, spectators, etc.). If the incident involves any players, they will be brought into this fact-finding conversation as appropriate.
  4. A hearing will be conducted before any punishments or sanctions are implemented.  Hearings may be conducted virtually, via phone or in-person. A Summary Suspension may be implemented if there is an immediate threat or safety issue.
  5. The appeal process regarding any punishments or sanctions issued will be detailed in conclusions from the hearing.
  6. The contact who initiated the complaint will be notified that the issue has been reviewed, investigated and is closed. Details of the conclusion will be shared on a need-to-know basis, being mindful of confidentiality of minors and individual privacy concerns.
  7. Any SafeSport complaints may be directed to: https://www.usahockey.com/ All cases involving alleged child physical or sexual abuse should be reported to local authorities in addition to (and before) reporting it to the SafeSport.
