Fall Hockey

This is the 50TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR OF LF SCOUTS HOCKEY!

LF Scouts Hockey incorporates players in the Lake Forest and Lake Bluff communities who attend Lake Forest High School.

Ages

LF Scouts Hockey incorporates Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Seniors from Lake Forest High School. All players attending LFHS in the 2025-26 academic school year are eligible to play Scouts Hockey.

DUAL ROSTER PLAYERS: Dual rosters (playing Scouts Hockey + another hockey club) are considered on a case-by-case basis at the JV level only. If your player is considering a dual rostered option you will need to discuss this, prior to tryouts, with Hockey Director Steve Sarauer, steve.sarauer.lfhs@gmail.com.

When/About

LF Scouts Hockey starts with Training Camp (Tryouts) in late August and will run into March depending on league playoffs and the AHAI State tournament.

Fall Tryouts:

Friday, August 22

Saturday, August 23

First practices:

Sunday, August 24

Based on final tryout numbers, we will have four full teams this season.

***It is important to note that you should PLAN on having hockey, most likely PLAYOFF hockey, over President's Day weekend in February so please do NOT make plans to be out of town during this time.

RINKS

Scouts Hockey primarily skates out of the rink at Lake Forest College (LFC). Home games and practices are regularly held at LFC. Occasionally there may be a practice at Lake Forest Academy, Hot Shots in Lake Bluff and Top Shelf Ice Arena in Gurnee Mills Mall.

Practices

Teams will average 2 practices per week and 1 game per week. This will vary from week to week and some weeks may have 4-5 ice touches and some weeks may have 2-3 ice touches.

Each team will also participate, on average, 2 off-ice sessions every week. These will take place at Advantage Fitness in Highwood and/or Toned Yoga in Lake Bluff.

Practices may also be in the mornings before school at Lake Forest College (primarily on Wednesday and Thursday when LFHS has late start.).

Practices will be at Lake Forest College, Lake Forest Academy or Hot Shots Ice Arena.

Games

Varsity Gold and JV Gold will play in the Scholastic Hockey League (SHL). Varsity Blue will play in the Academic Hockey League (AHL), which is part of the SHL. JV Blue will participate in the Illinois High School Hockey League in the North Central Division. All teams will also play in 2-3 tournaments throughout the season, including the state tournament at the conclusion of the season. Between regular season league games, exhibition games, and tournaments each team will average 35-40 games.
